WILLIAM B. HAWKINS III

A Nashville native, licensed in 1999, Will has over 25 years of experience litigating in both state and federal courts. He remains a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent* rated attorney representing that his professional peers, both judges and attorneys, rank him at the highest level of professional service. His areas of practice include representing businesses and individuals, plaintiffs and defendants. He has experience trying complex cases before judges and juries in both state and federal courts, for both plaintiffs and defendants. He enjoys leveling the playing field in courts throughout Tennessee.

Will remains the “go to” attorney for matters before the the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners (BLE or TNBLE). He has also represented numerous attorneys who find themselves before the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility.

Mr. Hawkins represents numerous clients in litigation matters involving real estate and construction disputes. He has litigated to, and through trial numerous disputes involving real estate contracts, leases, easements, construction defects, and real property boundary disputes.

​

He has represented numerous licensed real estate agents and brokers in litigation ranging from disputes over fees to causes of action for breach of professional duties and responsibilities. He has assisted real estate agents in obtaining the compensation they deserve in transactions involving tens of millions of dollars.

​

He has represented many licensed residential and commercial contractors in disputes with clients. He has long represented regional and national suppliers of building products in Tennessee. He has successfully represented contractors before the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors. He has also represented the buyers of real properties which have construction defects and title issues.

​

He has represented shareholders in closely held corporations in derivative shareholder actions. He has represented partners in complex business disputes.

​

On behalf of a local client, for a number of years he battled the full might of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. That case was presented to a Federal Jury, which ultimately resulted with a very favorable settlement for his client.

​

Mr. Hawkins has participated in the briefing and oral arguments at the Tennessee Court of Appeals, the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals, Tennessee Supreme Court, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals for the United States. He has represented the prevailing party in numerous reported and unreported cases and is a member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court, Washington, D.C., the highest Court in the United States.

Mr. Hawkins' personal injury work has resulted in obtaining millions of dollars in judgments and settlements for his clients, including a $3.338 million dollar jury award in the Federal District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee against one of the world’s largest for an individual client against one of the world's largest chemical manufacturers. That case was affirmed by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals after full briefing and oral argument.

Born in Nashville, Will grew up in Sumner County, Tennessee. He attended public schools, then successfully completes his plebe year at The Citadel, then graduated from Auburn University in 1995. He obtained his J.D. from Mississippi College in 1999 and then clerked in for the Honorable Thomas W. Brothers in the Sixth Circuit Court for Davidson County, Tennessee.

 

He spent the majority of his career working with the venerable Nashville trial attorney, Ken Jones, with whom he founded Jones Hawkins & Farmer PLC. That firm is now named Hawkins Hogan, PLC.

​

He was an associate member of the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court in Nashville, Tennessee and on the board of the Young Lawyer Division of the Nashville Bar for a number of years. He was a member of the Econ Club of Nashville for over 20 years.

​

When not litigating, he enjoys boating, fishing, hunting, diving, travel, and anything else that takes him outdoors. And, during most most years, Auburn and Citadel athletics.
